LibPaths has three major components; 1) LibPaths Editor, 2) local Portal Collection, and 3) community shared LibPaths PortalHub. Together these components provide a set of resources and tools that allow you to build a collection or library of teaching and learning portals containing information targeted to specific groups of students, teachers, and your school community.


Note: LibPaths is an optional subscription service that extends the functionality of LibBase. Schools subscribing to LibPaths also have access to a collection of portals in LibPaths PortalHub that have been designed to support teaching and learning in K-12 schools.


Portal Overview


A portal can be thought of as a container of digital resources or information which can be shared as a separate entity with one or many people simultaneously.


Each portal contains one or more boxes of information called portlets each of which is relevant to the overarching topic or theme of the portal. Each portlet can contain a variety of appropriate learning resources to support teachers and/or students.


LibPaths automatically creates a Personal Learning Portal (PLP) for each student and teacher which can automatically become the personal home page or landing page whenever they connect directly to LibPaths. Alternatively each portal can be embedded into other school internet services such as a learning management system, webinar (Teams, Zoom), or electronic task sheets (PDF documents).


LibPaths Editor includes tools to:

  • create your own engaging information presentations in a variety of layouts,
  • import portals from PortalHub which have been professionally created by subject experts,
  • manage discrete sharing (who sees what),
  • manage time related sharing (when do they see it).


A LibPaths portal is used to create and manage a set of multiple portals consisting of:

  • one or more portlets on each portal,
  • supporting resources and information within each portlet.


Portals are designed to deliver specific and relevant teaching and learning materials to student and teacher device based on their academic or teaching profile.


In addition, each portal can be scheduled to automatically display in sync with each student's timetable for the academic year. This results in portals dynamically cycling, between being visible and not visible throughout the year. This eliminates:

  • unnecessary and unintentional distractions,
  • cumbersome and confusing folder navigation, and
  • the need to "search for information"

ensuring students and teachers are always presented with resources which match the units of work they are studying at that time of the year they are required. 


Portals can be similarly created and dynamically displayed for individual teachers of for groups of teachers giving each teacher instant access to relevant teaching materials.


After you create a portal or import a portal from LibPaths PortalHub, you can create and manage portlets in that portal.
