Using Infiniti Z39.50 cataloguing, or Z-cataloguing, you can add a new bibliographic record to your catalogue using a compliant Z39.50 source, or update an existing bibliographic record in your catalogue using a Z39.50 source.

Z-cataloguing a book is a two part process:

  1. Create the bibliographic record for the book:
    1. Search one or more Z-server/s for a bibliographic record
    2. Import a suitable bibliographic record
  2. Attached one or more holdings or copies to the bibliographic record.

Note: Z-cataloguing is best done by searching a Z-server using the ISBN of each book as this method the most precise. Other search options are available but are less precise.

There are a number of cataloguing processes to choose from when Z-cataloguing. Choose the process that best suits the task you have to complete at the time:

  1. One book at a time by searching:
    1. one Z-source and, if found, importing the record.
    2. multiple Z-sources and, if found, choosing which record to import.
  2. Multiple books at a time from multiple Z-sources.
  3. Multiple books at a time from one Z-source.
Note: By default, Infiniti will always search the local school catalogue when Z-cataloguing, unless otherwise instructed, to avoid duplication of bibliographic records.
