Infiniti supports the creation and printing of spine labels. Both standard spine labels and custom labels are supported. Standard spine labels display call number details while custom labels can contain any combination of; main title, main author, barcode, barcode number, call number, site, and section. Label dimensions can vary according to requirements. Custom labels can incorporate a variety of fonts, colours, and layouts. Labels are prepared in the custom label management and workspace and printed to PDF for preview prior to printing to appropriate stationery.
Creating And Managing Print Queues
Prior to printing spine labels confirm the template you intend to use has already been created in the label templates library.
The New Resources Print Queue is automatically created and populated when a cataloguer leaves Add to Label Print Queue checked while cataloguing a new resource for any library in your school. This New Resources print queue will be maintained until you clear it.
Note: It can be cleared as part of the clear labels and queues process after any print run or at any time regardless of whether or not the labels have been printed.
Prepare and Print Spine Labels
- Select Spine labels from the Print mode dropdown list.
- Select the {template} to use for the set of labels you wish to print from the Label Template dropdown list. Note: Clickto view the chosen template format, or edit font and print layout options. Save any changes.
- Locate the row number and column number location of the first blank label on the label sheet you intend to start printing on.
- Record these numbers in the Start at row and Column fields to ensure your labels begin printing onto the first available blank label on your first label sheet.
- Choose the source of the labels from the dropdown list in Populate From:
- Single Barcode - to print a small number of random labels.
- Set of Barcodes - to print a large number of labels using a prepared set of barcodes.
- New Resources Print Queue - to print labels for the new copies added to bibliographic records since the last time you cleared this queue.
- If you chose Single Barcode, scan one or more barcodes into Barcode field to populate the print queue. Note: The print queue displays in reverse numeric order to the way it was created, i.e., the last item added will be at the top of the queue and its number will indicate the total number of items on the queue. If you delete from the queue it will automatically renumber.
- If you chose Set of Barcodes, scan multiple barcodes into Barcodes field or export collected barcodes from your portable barcode reader to populate the list, clickto add the list to the print queue.

- Click to edit a barcode or a classification, and clickto save the change. Note: This only changes values on the label, not in the resource record.

- If you are satisfied with the labels printed in PDF, print the PDF to your printer. Note: Always uncheck Fit to Page / shrink to page if checked. This will alter the label alignment on the page.

- Switch Diagnostic Modeand repeat from Step 9 above. If information can't be printed within the label boundaries a dotted line (red = cannot fit, green = shrunk to fit) will surround the label area and you can scroll to the end of the printed PDF and review the diagnostic report for each of these labels.
- Switch Shrink to Fitand repeat from Step 9 above.
- Return to Step 2 above and select a different template for printing.
- Experiment with different template settings to find the combination that best suits your requirements.

Spine Label Information
Spine labels print a call number as an aggregate of the Classification and Main Entry fields of the bibliographic record or the Local Call Number of one or more individual holdings or copy records. If required, individual holdings or copies may have a call number different from the bibliographic record to allow for one or more holdings to be in locations that better suit your local requirements. The Local Call Number will take precedence over the bibliographic call number.Always
