A Catalogue Query search is a special type of search that is created by the library manager at a specific point in time but executed in automatically real time in the future. Catalogue Query searches are used to display a specific sets of books to students using a PicPAC kiosk, or to display a specific set of books our other resources as a carousel in a portal.
What Is A Catalogue Query Search
A catalogue query search is crafted search created by setting filters that will be used to search or query your catalogue whenever the search is executed. Each catalogue search will be executed in real time whenever a student clicks an image at the end of a hierarchy in a PicPAC interface, or a carousel displays a list of items in a portal.
Set Filters For A Catalogue Search
A catalogue search is created by identifying the filters that should be applied to the search. All filters make up the overall criteria for the search each time it is executed:
- Choose from the available filters:
- Author - filter using an author.
- Genre - filter using a genre.
- Media Type - filter using a media type.
- Series - filter using a series.
- Subject - filter using a subject.
- Section - filter using a section.
- Site - filter using a site.
Note: Remember to clickto include each filter as part of the overall search criteria as you choose it.
Note: While multiple filters will help to refine each search to a precise set of resources, too many filters, or an odd combination of filters, can result in finding no resources. Remember to check how the criteria you set impact on the specific PicPAC and related audience it applies to.
Note: If new items are added to your catalogue and they have attributes that match a catalogue search, then they will be included in the resources displayed in the PicPAC or carousel.
Multiple Filters
You can choose to apply multiple filters of:
- the same type, e.g., filter using two author or three genres,
- different types, e.g., one author and one subject.
Note: If the filters are of the same type, the search will look for value one OR value two. If the filters are of different types, the search will look for value one AND value two.
Confirming Results
After selecting your filters, you should confirm that the search will return results to the target audience as expected.
